Solo trips to a theme park can be intimidating at first, but once you figure out the tips and tricks, they can become some of the best theme park experiences you’ll ever have. Over the past few years, my solo trips have become more and more frequent because of how much I enjoy the freedom and flexibility to see and experience whatever I want. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to the parks with a group of friends or with family, but there are some times where going to the park by yourself can actually be an amazing and unique adventure. My goal is that by the end of this article you’ll feel inspired and confident enough to give solo park-going a shot. So let’s talk about some of the benefits, and some helpful tips to enjoying your day the most!

Single Riders

A lot of parks now days actually consider optimizing their rides and queue experiences for a person who’s not a part of a group! For rides that have a single riders line, this is a great option to be able to get on rides quicker and more easily. Taking advantage of the single riders line is a great park tip in general; however, when you’re with a group it can be a hassle to get split up and have to regroup after the ride. When you’re genuinely at the park without a group, the single riders line is a fantastic experience: an extremely reduced wait with little-to-no compromise to the experience! Be sure to take advantage of that!

Most modern day attractions like VelociCoaster and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run offer a single rider queue! However, if you’re unsure if one is available, feel free to ask a ride attendant near the entrance and they’ll be happy to help you.

Free Reign

The larger the group, the more difficult it is to make decisions. Have you ever been to a theme park with a large group? There’s always compromises and work arounds. Maybe someone wants to do a big coaster, but half the group is afraid of the larger rides; meanwhile, a few people want to see a show that a few others don’t want to see. There’s always give and take. Experiences that you’d rather pass up on, or some experiences that you have to miss out on. Going to the park solo is a great experience in-part because you have the only, and final, say in what you want to do and what you get to do. There’s no one in your party that you have to take into consideration. You get to move at your own pace (as fast or as slow as that may be) and you’re able to enjoy what you chose to enjoy. Having the freedom to choose for solely yourself is an amazing experience, especially at one of your favorite parks.

Enjoy the Small Details

Sometimes large crowds can be difficult to deal with. It doesn’t matter if you’re on a solo trip to the park or if you are a part of a group - large crowds and long lines are stressful. That’s why there’s no better time to relax and enjoy the small details than when you’re by yourself.

Some of my favorite park-going experiences have been when I’m in no rush and I take my time to enjoy the scenery. I’ll never forget moments like stopping by Finnegans in Universal Studios Florida, grabbing a drink, and sitting outside in the shade and just enjoying the atmosphere of the early twentieth century New York City theming. Simple moments like that can bring more magic and memories than you would expect. Theme parks don’t always have to be “rush, rush, rush” all the time. You don’t have to wait in long lines to have an amazing and unique experience. Sometimes slowing down and taking it all in is more than enough. So relax and enjoy the small details. They’re worth it, and they’ll inspire you to come back time and time again.

Personally, I enjoy solo trips to the parks so much! It offers such a one-of-a-kind experience that is impossible to have as part of a group. Sure, being a part of a group is fun, and not being a part of one can be scary at first, but having some alone time at a world class theme park… well, there’s nothing like it.
