Universal Reveals All Five Scare Zones For Halloween Horror Nights 31

Universal Orlando Resort has OFFICIALLY revealed ALL five scare zones that will be at Halloween Horror Nights 2022 this year! Unlike the uncharacteristic drop of all the houses at once that also happened this morning (August 16, 2022), in previous years Universal has been known to announce all street scare zones at once. So let’s dive into the announcements!

In previous years of Halloween Horror Nights I’ve been rather critical of the scare zone. Last year’s HHN 30, it was abundantly apparent that the streets had gone from “scare” zones to glorified photo ops. Although I had choked it up to covid safety protocol, this transition in mindset for the scare zones had been happening since a few years prior to that event. However, this year’s lineup seems to be coming out swinging, and I’m very excited to see what the twisted minds at Universal Creative have come up with for this year. So without further to do, here’s the full lineup of Halloween Horror Nights 2022 Scare Zones!

Scare Zones for Halloween Horror Nights 2022

  • Horrors of Halloween

  • Scarecrow: Cursed Soil

  • Sweet Revenge

  • Graveyard: Deadly Unrest

  • Conjure the Dark

Horrors of Halloween

Horrors of Halloween is the headlining scare zone taking place in Avenue of the Stars and Production Central this year. Horrors of Halloween features the return of the Pumpkin Lord, which is a character that was introduced in last year’s event in the house “Wicked Growth: Realm of the Pumpkin”.

Scarecrow: Cursed Soil

Taking place in the corn fields outside of the infested barn featured in the original house “Scarecrow: The Reaping” featured in HHN 27 in 2017, Scarecrow: Cursed Soil will have you once again come face to face with the horrifying living scarecrows. This scare zone is located in Central Park, and is by far my most anticipated considering how amazing the original house was (it won house of the year in 2017). If they continue the theme and storyline flawlessly, this is where I’ll be living for the next two months.

Sweet Revenge

From the looks of the set pieces that have already gone up in the New York section of the park, this scare zone will be something special. In sweet revenge you’ll find yourself in the middle of a horrifying disaster that took place during a Halloween parade put on by a small town. This scare zone has the potential to be the fan favorite of the year, and with all its set pieces, I’m excited to see how this street comes to life… or death.

Graveyard: Deadly Unrest

Hollywood Blvd has been turned into a massive graveyard that is haunted by ghosts, ghouls, and goblins during a dark thunderstorm! Hopefully this street will be filled with unique costumes and fun effects! Will it be raining all night as you walk through? I’m curious to find out!

Conjure the Dark

Lastly, but not least, we have Conjure the Dark! This scare zone is located in San Francisco and has big “Gorewood Forest” vibes from last year. The streets will be filled with evil creatures that are being conjured from the beyond by a dark sorceress witch! I hope that this street doesn’t fall prey to the same issues that plagued last year’s Crypt TV scare zone that was in its same place. Having so many stage and performance set pieces made the street almost lifeless as it was more small show scenes and photo ops instead of fun and wild scares.

Witch (get it?) scare zone are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments below! Personally, I have a really good feeling about this year. I feel like Universal Orlando heard the criticisms of the event last year and have made some really solid changes for this year's event, and I believe one of those changes has been bringing the scares back into the scare zones. But of course we’ll be attending the event on opening night to experience all these amazing zones first hand.
