According to Universal Orlando, “guests will see what it’s like to live amongst dragons as they explore a larger-than-life world that includes exciting attractions, beloved character meet-and-greets, dining, shopping – and even flying dragons – based on DreamWorks Animation’s multi-award winning and Academy Award-nominated trilogy, How to Train Your Dragon.”

This 20 Acre land is filled with three attractions, a state-of-the-art show, a fully immersive dinning location, meet and greets, and so much more, that this land almost feels like a mini theme park in and of itself! Let’s dive into all that How to Train Your Dragon - Isle of Berk has to offer!

Isle of Berk sets out to push the boundaries of themed entertainment once again for Universal Orlando! Taking inspiration from the beautifully themed details of the movies, this land will completely immerse you in the dragon-riding viking village of Berk set between the events of the first and second film. As you enter into the land, you’ll be greeted by two large statues, and high stretching structures that house real-life dragons! Brining this land to life, will not just be the kinetic energy of the attractions, but there will also be multiple walk around characters and interactive dragon figures scattered through for guests to encounter!

“On this family thrill coaster, Hiccup invites brave new Vikings to take a ride in his latest glider contraption – a winged flying machine that launches aspiring Dragon Riders into the sky for a dragon’s eye view of Berk. Guests will fly alongside Hiccup and Toothless and reach speeds up to 45 mph as they soar around the perimeter of Berk – and even through the lagoon – while experiencing firsthand what it’s like to fly on a dragon.” - Universal Orlando Resort

Hiccup has created a Wing Glider for guests of Berk to ride on so they can know what it’s like to fly on the backs of dragons! However, Toothless isn’t too happy that Hiccup has built a new dragon, so out of jealousy, Toothless launches the roller coaster early before Hiccup has the opportunity to attach the full size wings to the vehicle. As a result, instead of soaring above the clouds, guests rambunctiously dodge their way around the land nearly colliding with rocks and bridges along the way.

Universal has become known for their ability to create amazing and delicious dishes and beverages that are themed to a specific intellectual property. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter set a new standard for dinning becoming an integral piece of the themed experience, and Universal has continued to carry that fundamental idea over to the Isle of Berk.

Although we don’t have many details on what merchandising options there will be in the Isle of Berk yet, we do know that there will be at least three gift shops and one candy store. Universal Orlando has released the official names of these stores! Viking Traders is believed to be the main gift shop for the land where guests can come to acquire everything that would be needed to become a successful viking! Hiccup’s Work Shop will most likely be a store that sells models and toys of all the fun inventions that Hiccup has made to help humans and dragons live together. Toothless’ Treasures will most likely be a shop where you can buy your own dragon! And of course, the candy shop for the land will be called How to Treat Your Dragon.

Jonathan Holt

Jonathan Holt grew up in Central Florida and fell in love with the Theme Parks and creative culture of Orlando at a young age.

“Some of my earliest childhood memories are filled with trips to Disney and Universal with my family. The way the parks transported me to another world where it was okay to laugh and scream directly impacted the way I saw the world growing up. As an adult now, the parks still hold a very special place in my heart. The parks that we love, hold so much magic that they remind us what it’s like to be a kid again. My dream is to build a community that is able to have child-like joy together while talking about and experiencing the parks.”
