Revenge of the Mummy REOPENS!

Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida has been a fan favorite ever since its opening in 2004. However, with almost two decades of operation under its belt, a refurbishment of the attraction has been long overdue. Late in 2021 Universal Orlando Resort officially announced the temporary closure of Revenge of the Mummy for a lengthy overhaul, and ever since January 6, 2022, the attraction has sat silent. That is until now.

On August 13th, Universal surprised team members with a preview of the ride for testing. The ride would see testing off and on throughout that week with rave reviews coming from the current team members who were able to experience it, with some saying that “the refurbishment was completely worth the wait”. And we can now confirm the ride is currently operating as if it were new with updated 4K projections, refurbished animatronics and show effects, and brand new ride operation hardware to help smoothen out show transitions. However, after previews ended Universal remained silent about an official opening date.

A little over two weeks from team member previews, the ride has now begun soft opening previews/rehearsals on August 30th! Currently there is no official statement from Universal on an official grand reopening date; however, as of today guests can now experience the reborn attraction for themselves! Please note that these are technical rehearsals, and the ride has no guarantee of operation throughout the day. That being said, if previews go well, which they seemingly have for team members and the first day of park guest openings, the ride will continue to operate from now until the official opening date.

Many fans of the Revenge of the Mummy attraction will be happy to know that the ride remains the same as it were back in 2004 when it first opened, albeit with modern projection technology and ultra high def renderings that “plus” the original concept. With many early rumors suggesting that Universal Orlando was looking to distance the attraction from the 1999 franchise staring Brendan Fraser and converting the theming elements to fit a more generic and classic “Mummy”, fans of the modern-classic attraction were worried that January 6th was their last time to not enjoy an un-caffeinated interview; however, it was to our great excitement and joy to find out that the ride has not received any changes to its original theming or story elements! Reggie fans can rest easy knowing that the curse is still very much real.

Of course these openings are not officially scheduled, so there’s no guarantee that the ride will be in operation on any given day. Do not plan a trip around experiencing this attraction until Universal Orlando Resort officially announces a specific opening day. This article will continue to be updated as more information is released. However, the Mummy reopening in any form is really good and refreshing news for the Universal Orlando fan community. But hey, thanks for reading. I would’ve enjoyed writing this article a lot more if I HAD GOTTEN MY CUP OF COFFEE! [ghostly subscribe for more]

Jonathan Holt grew up in Central Florida and fell in love with the Theme Parks and creative culture of Orlando at a young age.

“Some of my earliest childhood memories are filled with trips to Disney and Universal with my family. The way the parks transported me to another world where it was okay to laugh and scream directly impacted the way I saw the world growing up. As an adult now, the parks still hold a very special place in my heart. The parks that we love, hold so much magic that they remind us what it’s like to be a kid again. My dream is to build a community that is able to have child-like joy together while talking about and experiencing the parks.”
