Having been previously announced on July 14, 2023, Stranger Things returns to Halloween Horror Nights once again - but this time Vecna is here to create a spine-bending experience to rival former seasons. This year’s incarnation of Stranger Things will focus on season four of the acclaimed and fan-favorite streaming show. With previous Stranger Things seasons bringing HHN record breaking numbers, are you excited for this addition? Let us know in the comments below. For more information about this house, read our article on it here.

The Exorcist: Believer

Based on the upcoming 2023 film of the same name, The Exorcist: Believer follows two missing girls after they’ve been found with no memory of what’s happened to them. The film, which was produced by Blumhouse, is a continuation of the Exorcist film franchise, which has had a long standing history with the Halloween Horror Nights event. With Blumhouse also having a long standing history with Universal Pictures and the Halloween event, it only makes sense to have their newest property represented this season. The Exorcist: Believer debuts in theaters on October 13, 2023.

The Last of Us

Announced on June 5, 2023, the popular video game franchise, The Last of Us, will be having its debut house at Halloween Horror Nights 2023! Based on the original video game instead of the latest HBO series, The Last of Us will take you through select moments of Joel and Ellie’s journey through an overgrown Pittsburgh to save the world. On this journey you will have to survive encounters with Clickers, Hunters and other terrifying creatures. To know more about this house, read our article all about it here. Will you be rushing out to this house on opening night? Let us know in the comments below!

Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count

Chucky is back for another year of Halloween Horror Nights, but instead of another photo op, this time he has his own house to terrorize! Based on the USA & SYFY show, this is what Universal had to say about their upcoming house:

‘Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count’ casts this killer doll as the star of his very own haunted house for the first time. A true sadistic killer, Chucky has been mired in the agony of disrespect he feels from his peers at not being taken seriously. Thus begins his quest to turn his haunted house into a living slaughterhouse by killing every person who enters.
— Universal Orlando Resort

This meta take on the Chucky franchise seems like it will bring a fresh spin on the otherwise old character. With over-the-top gore, and loads of meta humor, this house might be presenting itself as the comedy house for the year. We’ll have to wait and see. Are you excited for Chucky?

Universal Monsters: Unmasked

Back once again for its fourth year (if you don’t count 2020’s HHN Lite), Universal’s Classic monsters will bring you to the depths of the Catacombs beneath the streets of Paris. The city of romance will be exposed for its deadly secrets that are buried amongst the dead. This is what Universal had to say about their upcoming house:

Deep within the Catacombs, Universal’s most notorious creatures – The Phantom of the Opera, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dr. Jekyll and his deranged alternate personality Mr. Hyde, and Dr. Jack Griffin, aka The Invisible Man – lie in wait as they bide their time and seek vengeance against guests after the opening of the Catacombs to public visitation. These desperate and dangerous fiends have become filled with a rage toward guests navigating the twisted tunnels of their underground labyrinth home.

Each year that the Classic Monsters return to Halloween Horror Nights, their house gets better and better. With last year’s Universal Monsters: Legends Collide being one of the most impressive houses of that season’s lineup, this year definitely has monstrous shoes to fill. Along with the land being constructed at Universal’s Epic Universe, the bar of excellence seems to keep being raised. The constant push of these characters might be on the edge of excessive, but as long as Universal continues to deliver above and beyond expectations, the presence of these characters at Halloween Horror Nights are more than a welcome addition. What are your thoughts on the fourth incarnation of the Classic Monsters at Halloween Horror Nights?

Dr. Oddfellow’s Twisted Origins

Dr. Oddefellow returns! As speculated in the v3.0 Spec Map, which you can view here, Dr. Oddfellow is once again making an appearance in the event; however, this time with his own house. Dr. Oddfellow is a character that hardcore fans of the event might recall as the man who created Jack the Clown - one of HHN’s most infamous icons. This is what Universal had to say about their upcoming house:

In the 1930s Dust Bowl era, guests won’t be able to resist going inside Dr. Oddfellow’s menacing menagerie of twisted oddities where they’ll encounter grotesquely distorted animals and freakish fiends. In ‘Dr. Oddfellow: Twisted Origins,’ the price to enter this creepy caravan is steep as souls feed his immortal power.

Exploring the origins of Dr. Oddfellow before encountering Jack Schmidt will add so much to the lore of the character and to Halloween Horror Nights as a whole! Currently all we know about Dr. Oddfellow before meeting Jack the Clown is that several patrons had “accidentally” died in a circus accident which occurred at the Doctor’s circus. Oddfellow met Jack in the southern states while on the run from the FBI. While it’s big properties like Stranger Things that bring people to the event, it’s original houses like these that turn guests into long term fans. Are you excited to explore more of the history of these fan favorite characters? Let us know in the comments below.

Dueling Dragons: Choose Thy Fate

Sure to bring a smile to the hearts of every old-school Universal Orlando fan, Dueling Dragons: Choose Thy Fate is based on the lore of the old dueling B&M roller coaster that was formerly located next door at Islands of Adventure where Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure currently sits. This house will expand on the lore of the beloved attraction, as well as put you right back in the battle of fire and ice! This is what Universal had to say about their upcoming house:

The great wizard Merlyn has been transformed into the Enchanted Oak, leaving a power vacuum. When two powerful warlocks invade his castle to steal his spell book, they are turned into dragons of fire and ice. Now guests are caught in the middle of their battle and are forced to choose a path and a victor. But beware, one never knows who will win in ‘Dueling Dragons: Choose Thy Fate.’

YETI: Campground Kills

A follow up to YETI: Terror of the Yukon in 2019’s event, YETI: Campground Kills will once again put you face to face with larger-than-life, blood thirsty yetis. Can Universal have a yeti that actually works twice in a row? I’m sure we’ll find out. This is what they had to say about the house:

In a 1950s campground, a group of towering, terrifying yetis are running rampant, ripping apart campers, rangers and anyone else who gets in their way. In “YETI: Campground Kills,” guests must flee through the campground, into cabins, a bait shack and even the outhouse in hopes of making it to the ranger tower before it’s too late.

The Darkest Deal

Based on the famous legend of Robert Johnson, the Darkest Deal will be a story of a blues musician who, in the search for fame and glory, meets the devil in the crossroads to make a deal. Universal is no stranger to taking classic folklore tales and turning them into twisted horror houses for their event. This tale has the potential to become a unique staple of that tradition. This is the official story of the house:

In the Mississippi Delta, blues musician Pinestraw Spruce meets at a crossroads with a diabolical entity known as The Collector to make a deal: his soul for musical glory. Guests will witness his big break performing for a crowd before The Collector drags him to Hades with the other musicians who learned the terrible price of fame in ‘The Darkest Deal.’

Bloodmoon: Dark Offerings

Lastly, Bloodmoon: Dark Offerings is another original concept from the team behind Halloween Horror Nights. Based in a colonial village where the townsfolk worship the moon, a gruesome offering is being made and you are the best prey.

Colonial-era villagers begin to worship the moon obsessively. When the blood moon rises at their fall festival, they take it as a sign that they must hunt down any non-followers within their village. Guests will need to try not to become part of the sacrifice as they gather body parts to form a grisly offering in ‘Bloodmoon: Dark Offerings.’

How to get everything done in ONE night at Halloween Horror Nights

Jonathan Holt

Jonathan Holt grew up in Central Florida and fell in love with the Theme Parks and creative culture of Orlando at a young age.

“Some of my earliest childhood memories are filled with trips to Disney and Universal with my family. The way the parks transported me to another world where it was okay to laugh and scream directly impacted the way I saw the world growing up. As an adult now, the parks still hold a very special place in my heart. The parks that we love, hold so much magic that they remind us what it’s like to be a kid again. My dream is to build a community that is able to have child-like joy together while talking about and experiencing the parks.”
