All Houses Are Now Revealed For Halloween Horror Nights 2022

In a wildly unceremonious act, Universal Orlando Resort posted all ten houses on their website this morning (August 16, 2022). Although no big announcements were made, we now have all the details for you! So let’s dive into what houses we’ll be seeing at Halloween Horror Nights 31!

Following Universal Orlando’s lead, why not just dump all the houses here now, shall we? Here’s a list of all 10 houses coming to the event! Stick around though, because we’ll be doing a deep dive into each one! Here we go!

The first thing I notice about this list is that this is the year of the ORIGINAL HOUSE! LETS GO! Each year it seems as if my favorite house turns out to be one of the originals that I wasn’t expecting to love so much. So my first big takeaway is how excited I am to see so many original houses in the lineup. For the longest time we all thought that original houses were slowly going away, but this year tells me that they’re here to stay, and I believe the strong fanfare for the return of original concepts last year in HHN 30 had something to do with it. However, let’s start off the list by talking about what Universal has already announced.

Of course before this massive news drop, Universal had already announced several houses. The most notable of those houses being The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmares. We highly recommend that you catch up on the story of the After Hours videos with this article where we break down each video in order and discuss the storyline of the house for HHN. Universal also announced that the classic Halloween (1978) is returning to Horror Nights this year. This is great for fans of the classic series; however, I have been fairly vocal about how I wish we got something new instead of returning to the Micheal Myers well one more time. With that being said though, I know they’ll do a fantastic job with the property. They also have previously announced the return of The Horrors of Blumhouse, this time featuring Freaky and the Black Phone of course. And lastly for the previously announced houses, we have Universal Monsters: Legends Collide. I have been a big fan of the classic Monsters houses for the last few years, so I’m very excited for this house. I feel like it gives us a small glimpse into the Monsters land that’s rumored to be coming to Epic Universe in 2025.

Spirits of the Coven

From there it's nothing but originals baby! Once again… LET'S GO! First on the list is Spirits of the Coven. Universal describes this house as:

“A coven of beautiful flapper witches will lure you into their 1920s speakeasy, reveal their haggish true form and turn your scream squad into a witch’s brew. They’ll be cackling; you’ll be screaming.” “They’re Bewitchingly Terrifying” - Universal Orlando Resort

Witches are a classic mainstay at Halloween Horror Nights, appearing as far back in the event as 2001 with the original ‘Scary Tales’ house. As we all know, Universal loves to bring back story ideas and elements from classic HHN houses, and I’m curious if this house will do just that. Is this a sequel to The Coven that was featured as a scarezone in HHN 20 back in 2010? I guess we’ll still have to wait to find out.

Bugs: Eaten Alive

Next up on the list is Bugs: Eaten Alive! This is what Universal Orlando had to say about the house:

“These Bugs Are Out to Exterminate YOU! While touring a 1950s home of the future, you’ll be surrounded by the slime of bugs everywhere as hordes of many-legged terrors descend upon you and your scream squad. You’ll be dropping like flies.” - Universal Orlando Resort

This house seems to be a period piece set in the 1950’s. From the looks of it, the house might have a retro futuristic style to it. However, either way this house seems targeted straight at people’s fears of the creepy crawlies. If this house has more of a comedic bent to it, which I feel like it might considering the setting and color scheme, I’m expecting to see large, over the top, bright, alien bug creatures all throughout this house. For some reason, I’m not expecting to see a realistic bug infected house.

Fiesta de Chupacabras

Fiesta de Chupacabras comes in at our seventh house for HHN 31. Universal describes this house like this:

“Listen to Your Abuela and Beware the Chupacabras! Visit a Latin American village where the legend of the creature Chupacabras is celebrated with a colorful fiesta. And the streets are lined with the crimson blood of tourists like you and your amigos.” - Universal Orlando Resort

This house sounds like it’s going to be the sleeper hit of this year’s event. We have big monsters, a deceptively fun and unique atmosphere of a Latin American fiesta, and a ton of blood and guts. To me, that sounds like the making of a distinctly special house. This might be one of my most anticipated houses of the event.

Hellblock Horror

Coming up in the eighth spot, we’ve got Hellblock Horror!

“As These Monsters Escape Their Prison, There’s No Escape for You. Enter a prison whose savage inmates are monstrous creatures. If they break free from their cells, it’s a death sentence for everyone.” - Universal Orlando Resort

Unleash the monsters this year! I’m here for it. This house will feature numerous unique creature designs, and I can’t wait to get up-close and personal with them. It will be interesting to see how Universal Creative will take a cell block theme and make it interesting and not repetitive. Of course, with their track record, I’m sure this house will be wildly unique.

Dead Man’s Pier: Winter’s Wake

The penultimate house for year 31 is going to be Dead Man’s Pier: Winter’s Wake!

“You’re Dead in the Water. In a New England fishing village, undead fishermen emerge from the waves to seek their revenge. You and your scream squad may have escaped their hooks in the scare zone. Now they’ll reel you in and drag you under.” - Universal Orlando Resort

The first thing that stands out is that Universal just also officially announced the first scare zone for this year! Apparently Dead Man’s Pier will also be a scare zone that sits right outside of this house. I’m curious to know if this is a sequel to Dead Man’s Wharf, which was a scare zone from HHN 26 back in 2016. That was a zone that I really enjoyed, so I would be curious if any of the lore from that street will carry over into this street and house.

Descendants of Destruction

Last, but not least, we have Descendants of Destruction!

“Deeper. Darker. Deadlier. Careful not to leave any of your scream squad behind as you descend the subway tunnels of a deserted New York. Lurking in the dark are hungry mutants looking to feast on the last remnants of humanity.”

The description of this house is giving me The Decent mixed with I Am Legend vibes, and honestly, I’m here for it. I love houses that play around with small, dark spaces, and this house seems perfect for that. The idea of hungry mutants in a subway does remind me a bit of Dead Exposure: Patient Zero from HHN 28 in 2018 though, so I’m curious to see how similar these houses are.

Jonathan Holt grew up in Central Florida and fell in love with the Theme Parks and creative culture of Orlando at a young age.

“Some of my earliest childhood memories are filled with trips to Disney and Universal with my family. The way the parks transported me to another world where it was okay to laugh and scream directly impacted the way I saw the world growing up. As an adult now, the parks still hold a very special place in my heart. The parks that we love, hold so much magic that they remind us what it’s like to be a kid again. My dream is to build a community that is able to have child-like joy together while talking about and experiencing the parks.”
