Disney Genie Plus Includes More Rides Now!
Disney Genie Plus has seen mixed reviews at Walt Disney World Resort; however, amongst the backlash claiming that the new system is too complicated, the service has sold at a record high of more than half of all theme park attendance over the summer peak season! The amazing success of Genie+ has encouraged the leadership to test out different variations of feature sets since its initial launch in December of 2021. One of these feature changes has been to the list of included attractions vs up-charge priority access, also known as Lightning Lane.
When the service initially launched, each of the four Walt Disney World parks excluded two (2) attractions from the base Genie Plus system and were only available for up-charge, individual attraction selection “Lightning Lane” purchases. However, soon after launch the resort experimented with incorporating a handful of these Lightning Lane attractions into the standard $15 baseline service. These attractions included: Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Expedition Everest, Frozen Ever After and Space Mountain. Fortunately, even though these changes only lasted a matter of weeks at first, leadership saw enough positive feedback from the test that they expanded it to last during the summer of 2022 and ending on August 7th.
However, Walt Disney World Resort has quietly removed the asterisks that accompanied these attractions with the message that read “Between February 25, 2022, and August 7, 2022, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Frozen Ever After and Space Mountain will be included via Disney Genie+ service and will not be included as an individual Lightning Lane selection.” It now seems as if these attractions are permanently included in the baseline $15 Disney Genie+ add-on!
Personally, I think this is a great decision on Walt Disney World’s end. By adding one attraction into Genie Plus from each park, the move adds more value and incentive to purchase the up-charge, add-on service. For an already overly complicated and convoluted system, having less individual selection Lightning Lane attractions also means having less confusion and less unsatisfied, or even angry, customers. The best way to add consumers to this product is by lowering the number of asterisks that accompany the service and its offerings.
