Breakdown of ALL TEN Houses
Breakdown of ALL FIVE Scare Zones

As you all know, I am a huge Halloween Horror Nights fan. So every year when HHNightmares releases the new spec map I get overly excited. Well, this year’s v1.0 map is officially here and it gives us a ton of great insights into this year’s event. Although there are still some empty pieces to the puzzle (such as scarezones), we have all the houses listed out, and well… there are some big surprises! Let’s break each item down and talk about it!

House Spec List

  • The Mummy vs The Wolfman

  • Seaside Villiage

  • Fear Street

  • The Last of Us

  • The Curse of Pandora’s Box

  • El Chupacabra

  • Underground Creatures

  • The Evil Dead

  • Halloween

  • The Weeknd

Let’s start with ‘A’ on the list, shall we? The Mummy vs the Wolfman: there’s no surprise that Universal is wanting to create another “Classic Universal Monsters” house. With the success of the previous two, the new rebranding of the characters, and the rumored Monsters land that’s said to be coming to Epic Universe in 2025, the addition of another Monsters house just makes sense. It’s brand awareness for them. That being said, I’m very excited for this house. They knocked the last two Monsters houses out of the park, and I’m very interested to see how this one plays out.

Moving down Production Central, we come across house ‘B’, which is rumored to be Seaside Village. This is the first original concept house that we have for the event! Not much is known about this house, but it’s potentially based on an unused concept for the event in 2017!

At the Corner of New York in front of the Library, we have two more houses as per usual. This year is speculated to have two large IPs in these houses - Fear Street (a Netflix horror trilogy) and The Last of Us (a large video game franchise that’s being turned into an HBO series). Both of these properties are interesting to me. Fear Street continues the trend for the Universal and Netflix collaborations. In past years we’ve seen multiple houses on Stranger Things, and last year we had Haunting of Hill House. The Last of Us is a property that’s been rumored for quite some time now. I’m not surprised to see it on this year’s list.

Next on the list, letter ‘E’, is another original house, but it’s not original to Universal Orlando, it originally was created by, and debuted at, Universal Hollywood - The Curse of Pandora’s Box. With Orlando’s bigger budget and better staging options, it will be interesting to see how much is changed or upgraded from the house we saw in 2019 at Hollywood. This house, of course is slated to be in the tent space next to Men In Black; however, with the closure of Fear Factor, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was one of the details that changes in a future map.

Speaking of the tents, lets move on to the next two. Letters ‘F’ and ‘G’ are both original houses (as tends to be for these tents). El Chupacabra and Underground Creatures will both come to life in the back of the park by the exit of MIB. There’s not much information on either of these concepts yet, but in traditional HHN fashion, these houses line up with what we’ve come to expect from the creative team.

Moving along to the KidsZone houses, we have two IPs that, if I’m honest, I hope we don’t see this year. Those houses are The Evil Dead and Halloween. Don’t get me wrong, I love both of those franchises, but don’t you think those houses have been played out at Halloween Horror Nights? We’ve seen both of these houses multiple times now and I’m dying to see more fresh content like the rest of this lineup. (UPDATE) Halloween (1978) has officially been announced for HHN 31

Saving the most interesting for last… letter ‘J’ is speculated to be a house based on the popular musician The Weeknd. This house is interesting for multiple reasons. Obviously, it’s interesting because of its subject matter. How are they going to turn The Weeknd into a fully realized Horror Nights house? Some of his music videos do have dark tones and themes, but is that enough for a full house? The other thing that stands out to me is its location. Obviously because Shrek 4D has closed, it’s been rumored that there won’t be a house located in the second theater until after the new attraction opens. That makes sense. But what’s interesting is that ‘J’ is located at Fast and Furious: Supercharged. If you ask me, anything is better than Fast and Furious, even an HHN house based on The Weeknd. However, I would be very curious to see how Universal utilizes the space for a new house. Rumors suggest that the house could even have guests travel along the ride path on foot. But of course, as more information comes out, we’ll be sure to keep you updated! (UPDATE) The Weeknd has officially been announced! Check out this article to catch up on the storyline of their album, After Hours, before experiencing the house!

Unfortunately, there’s still no information about this year’s ScareZones. However, it is important to note that a major rumor that’s going around is that it is possible that The Weeknd might not be a house, but it might be either a ScareZone OR he might have just written an original score for something at HHN 31. Either way, I’m very curious to know what is in store for the ScareZones this year.

Finally, let’s talk about the shows. Interestingly enough, on this speculation map there’s only one show listed and that’s Marathon of Mayhem. This show has been a huge success for the past two years, so it is no surprise that it’s returning. Marathon of Mayhem is a fun 15-20min long lagoon show that celebrates all the creative properties that are represented at the park that year. I’ve enjoyed this show both years that it was here, and I’m glad to see that it’s returning. However, I’m curious to know about the presence of any other live entertainment for HHN 31. With Fear Factor: Live being closed, it makes sense to not have anything listed on v1.0 of the spec map, but Universal has been known to put stage shows together on the streets of the park, especially in Hollywood next to Mel’s DrIvE in. As soon as we hear more about this topic, we’ll be sure to keep you updated!

But until then, go ahead a let us know what you think of version 1.0 of this year’s Speculation Map for Halloween Horror Nights! Remember, these are all just rumors and these maps are known to change a bit before receiving any official announcements from Universal. Jonathan Holt grew up in Central Florida and fell in love with the Theme Parks and creative culture of Orlando at a young age.

“Some of my earliest childhood memories are filled with trips to Disney and Universal with my family. The way the parks transported me to another world where it was okay to laugh and scream directly impacted the way I saw the world growing up. As an adult now, the parks still hold a very special place in my heart. The parks that we love, hold so much magic that they remind us what it’s like to be a kid again. My dream is to build a community that is able to have child-like joy together while talking about and experiencing the parks.”
