Taking almost twice as long to build as the entirety of EPCOT, Tron Lightcycle / Run is a project that is clearly very anticipated by fans in-part due to its overly lengthy development time. However, the long awaited attraction now has an official opening date! This is what Walt Disney World had to say about the grand opening:

On April 4, guests will enter the Grid and climb aboard their very own lightcycles on TRON Lightcycle / Run, one of the fastest coasters in any Disney park. As part of Team Blue, guests compete against fierce Team Orange to be the first to race through eight Energy Gates in a dark, computerized world.

It’s hard to believe that Tron will be open to the public come April 4th. After being announced in July of 2017, the attraction has taken almost six years to be brought to life. Years of slow moving construction, setbacks, and a whole pandemic later and guests will finally be able to enter the grid and race on a lightcycle!

This fan favorite attraction from Disneyland Shanghai was originally designed to be the replacement for Space Mountain in the modern era. The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World will be the only Disney theme park to house both the original Space Mountain and Tron within a singular park gate, let alone being located right next door from each other. It will be quite an interesting and unique experience to be able to ride the old and the new one after the other, living harmoniously side by side.

Jonathan Holt grew up in Central Florida and fell in love with the Theme Parks and creative culture of Orlando at a young age.

“Some of my earliest childhood memories are filled with trips to Disney and Universal with my family. The way the parks transported me to another world where it was okay to laugh and scream directly impacted the way I saw the world growing up. As an adult now, the parks still hold a very special place in my heart. The parks that we love, hold so much magic that they remind us what it’s like to be a kid again. My dream is to build a community that is able to have child-like joy together while talking about and experiencing the parks.”
