Scratch: New Howl-O-Scream Orlando 2022 Announcement!

Following up on the success of the first ever Howl-O-Scream at SeaWorld Orlando last year, SeaWorld just made their first house announcement for this year’s haunt: Scratch! This is what the park had to say about the upcoming attraction:

“Her name is Scratch, and beauty is in her blood. She’s emerged from the depths to lead her siren sisters in a new hunt. Will you be lured in and become her next victim? Find out this fall, only at SeaWorld Orlando.”

While Howl-O-Scream is the new kid on the block and might not have the same budget that Halloween Horror Nights across the street at Universal Orlando has, the SeaWorld company has made a name for themselves as they come out swinging as if they have something to prove. This event got its name, and earned its stripes, at Busch Gardens Tampa. It quickly became known for its darker, more gory, adult, and intense atmosphere than what most parks are willing to do.

While last year’s event at SeaWorld Orlando didn’t span the entire park, its small section still managed to pack in 4 houses, 4 scare zones, 2 shows, and 4 themed bars. This year, while it’s not officially announced to be growing, their website and marking seems to suggest that we can expect more to come with words like “More Haunted Houses” and “More Scare Zones”.

Considering that every house and zone is intellectual property (IP) free, I’m very excited to see what SeaWorld Orlando comes up with. Patrick Braillard, of former Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights fame, is the mastermind behind this event and claims that last year was just the beginning of a “multi-year process” when it comes to expansion. SeaWorld has proven to be a strong underdog in the competition before, and I’m definitely not going to be sleeping on them when it comes to this event. Jonathan Holt grew up in Central Florida and fell in love with the Theme Parks and creative culture of Orlando at a young age.

“Some of my earliest childhood memories are filled with trips to Disney and Universal with my family. The way the parks transported me to another world where it was okay to laugh and scream directly impacted the way I saw the world growing up. As an adult now, the parks still hold a very special place in my heart. The parks that we love, hold so much magic that they remind us what it’s like to be a kid again. My dream is to build a community that is able to have child-like joy together while talking about and experiencing the parks.”
